Christopher Beanland spends the night in one of Sydney’s most anticipated new hotels
One of the most exciting recent hotel openings in the Australian capital, West Hotel Sydney is part of Hilton’s new boutique hotel portfolio, Curio — and is the first such hotel in Australia. It’s set in a striking new building, designed by architects fitzpatrick+partners, which is covered in unique angled glass panels. The interiors are themed around gardens and the lobby is like stepping into a jungle. Rooms feature masculine dark decor and high ceilings, and the swish restaurant Solander serves modern Australian cooking and top-notch cocktails. In-room dining is also well above par here. With easy access to the city centre and the exciting new Barangaroo Precinct, you feel in the heart of Sydney’s action at a hotel that buzzes as lots of people pass through.
