Tried & Tested

British Airways

Seats: This is BA’s longest route — a 7,500-mile hop to Chile’s capital lasting nearly 15 hours —and I found I was able to sleep in economy with a 31-inch seat pitch and a 17.5-inch width. I also had plenty of leg room — although I’m only 5ft 4in. The design of the cabin was swish, with new dimming windows.
Food & drink: A hearty three-course hot meal tray was served about 90 minutes after our 22.00 take off, and then a cold breakfast box with yoghurt and granola arrived a couple of hours before landing at a local time of 09.45. This allowed for some eight hours of unbroken rest in between, which seemed like appropriate spacing. A fancier menu, including a cooked breakfast, is available to order at additional cost between 30 days and 24 hours before the flight. Hot and cold drinks were offered regularly, too.
Entertainment: A good selection of films was on offer on the 8.9-inch touchscreen seat-back monitor, although the interface wasn’t very straightforward or smooth. There was one USB charging socket, and the headphones were very basic so I opted to use my own.
Service: The crew were polite and professional.
